After a drive along some of the most beautiful coastline in the world, you’ll pass through the gates of Vatuwiri Estate and enter a whole new world. You are still on Taveuni Island but you have just arrived at a retreat of unsurpassed beauty and a formidable plantation, farm, wildlife preserve, and ocean and eco-activity wonderland all wrapped up in one.
However, the true experience of Vatuwiri really begins when you meet your hosts, the Tarte family, who preside over this grand estate. Spencer Tarte and his family are 3rd, 4th and 5th generation Fiji plantation owners who share one thing above all else - love and preservation of their heritage and family values. Fascinating stories and legends of the family, the Fiji Islands and their culture and the daily plantation-life experiences from the original settlers up to modern days will captivate your interest throughout your stay.
Vatuwiri Accommodation 
You will stay in a comfortable, magical ocean side bungalow with modern amenities and comforting sea breezes. The ocean waves, only a few meters below, grace the shore with a hypnotic and soothing harmony. Sound too good to be true? Well, again, read on.
What will I do all day?
Sleep and read if you want to, but Taveuni’s spectacular hills, valleys, natural attractions and ocean proximity are calling.
Horseback riding and hiking experiences will take you to the top of a dormant volcano and down to the crater marsh below; snorkel in pristine waters and reefs or explore an ancient Fijian village fortified for war. Scuba diving and big game fishing in Taveuni waters are unparalleled or “escape” to a private white sandy beach lagoon.
You’re also welcome to try your hand with the daily farming duties …. a great way to improve your fitness and maybe learn a few things at the same time! Vatuwiri is a viable copra farm and production facility as well as a cattle and horse ranch and large piggery. We grow our own vegetables and are, barring fuel and a few other necessities, essentially self-sufficient.
Dining at Vatuwiri
Only the finest ingredients go into our home cooked meals with fruits and vegetables picked for each sitting. Fresh fish such as wahu, walu, mahimahi, tuna and trout feature regularly along with succulent beef, chicken and pork dishes. Vegetarian options are yours, too. If you’re off for a day-excursion your lunch can be prepared “to go”. Dinner wraps up the day with another opportunity to visit with Tarte family members to go over today’s experiences and plan for tomorrows. But, if you excuse yourself for an early rest, that’s fine too.
Taveuni's Natural attractions
 The island of Taveuni offers several natural attractions, all of which are easily accessible and yours to enjoy.
Not far to the south of Vatuwiri are the Matamaiqi blow holes with water shooting 100 feet or higher through the volcanic rock. Ride a “bilibili” (Fijian bamboo raft) at Waitabu Marine Park or experience the thrill of the Waiyevo natural water slides.
Visit beautiful Levena Park and view a spectacular waterfall or Bouma National Heritage Park with its150 square kilometers of reserve that includes three waterfalls and costal and inland rainforest trails.
