AIR TRAVEL TO FIJI
Fiji has two international airports, Nadi, on the western side and Nausori on the east coast of Viti Levu near the capital, Suva. Eight international carriers offer direct flights to the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Korea through Nadi and Nausori and connections to all major cities in the world are also available. Fiji’s national carrier, Air Pacific, services many of those routes with a fleet that includes Boeing 747s and 767s.
To/From North America Air New Zealand and Air Pacific provide regular service from the west coast (only from LAX) to Fiji. Air New Zealand has four weekly flights and Air Pacific has two, which are non-stop. Flight time from the west coast to Fiji is about 9 hours and about six from Honolulu.
To/From Australia Both Air Pacific and Qantas fly to Fiji out of Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. Flight time is 3 3/4 hours from Sydney and 4 1/2 from Melbourne.
To/From New Zealand Air New Zealand and Air Pacific fly from Auckland to Nadi. Flight time from Auckland to Nadi is three hours 15 minutes.
To/From Europe Europeans interested in getting to Fiji should look into either Qantas, Air New Zealand or Korean Air
To/From Asia Both Air New Zealand and Air Pacific fly Nadi/Tokyo. The newest player in Asian market is Korean Airlines, which flies direct out of Seoul.
AIR TRAVEL WITHIN FIJI
Several daily flights service the main destinations in Fiji with fewer flights for more remote locations, including charter flights. The main island of Viti Levu has two airports - Nadi International Airport and Nausori (Suva). Flights between the two cities take 25mins and from Nadi to the Northern Islands about 50mins. There are two schedule airlines in Fiji - Air Fiji and Sun Air plus the chartered airline Wakaya Air. There are also sea-plane and helicopter companies based in Nadi with regular transfers to the Mamanuca and Yasawa group and charters to all other destinations in Fiji.

CUSTOMS
Fiji has two international airports - Nadi, the principle gateway and Nausori, near Suva. Fiji Customs operates a Duel Channel System - the Red and Green Channels - for clearance of air travelers.
Red Channel: If you have any prohibited or restricted goods, or dutiable goods exceeding your duty/VAT free allowance.
Green Channel: If you do not have any prohibited, restricted or commercial goods, or dutiable goods exceeding your duty/VAT concessions.
Note: Your baggage may be examined by Customs whether you take the Red or Green Channels.
DURABLE GOODS
Fiscal duty and VAT are levied on all goods in excess of concessions. Fiscal duty rates vary depending on the goods, whereas VAT is uniformly applied at 10%. VAT is applied on a base which includes the value of the goods plus any fiscal duty payable.
DUTY/VAT FREE CONCESSIONS
A bona fide passenger finally disembarking in Fiji is entitled to the following DUTY and VAT free concessions:
- Dutiable goods accompanying passengers (other than alcohol and tobacco products ) not exceeding $F400 in value
- The following goods which are owned by passengers and are not intended as gifts or for sale:
PERSONAL EFFECTS
Household effects for returning residents (must be used for 12 months prior to departure ) or intending residents.
*Articles taken out of Fiji on departure on which duty and tax have been paid
The goods should not be for sale and must be accompanied at the time of final disembarkation by the passenger. Alternatively, the passenger purchases the goods immediately after final disembarkation in Fiji.
Each passenger of 17 years or more may also bring the following goods into Fiji, duty and VAT free, provided they are accompanied and are not for sale:
*Alcohol - 2 litres of alcohol liquor, or 4 litres of wine, or 4 litres of beer, or any combination that does not exceed the prescribed limit for any one item.
*Tobacco products - 500 cigarettes, or any combination of tobacco products up to 500 grams net weight.
A Baggage Declaration Form is to be filled and signed by the bona fide passenger in the case of unaccompanied luggage.
DEPARTURE TAX
Visitors to Fiji are required to pay $20.00 departure tax in Fijian currency following check-in. Children under 12 are exempt.
QUARANTINE
The following items must be declared:
- All food stuffs
- Plants or parts of plants (alive or dead)
- Earth, soil, rocks or minerals
- Animals or parts of animals (alive or dead) - remember, coral is an animal and shells part of an animal
- Equipment used with horses or other animals
- Biological specimens or tissues.
