Money

Denominations

The Fijian dollar is the basic unit of currency, available in denominations of $2, $5, $10, $20, $50. Coins: 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c and $1. There is no limit to the amount of money to be brought in. Visitors are allowed to take out currency up to the amount imported.

Credit Card

Major credit cards are welcomed by most hotels, restaurants, shops, rental car agencies, tours, cruises and travel agents. American Express, Diners Club, Visa, JCB International and Mastercard, are represented in Suva. American Express and VISA can replace lost credit cards and travellers cheques.

How To Get Local Currency

An ANZ Bank branch in the international arrivals concourse at Nadi International Airport is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It charges a F$2 (US90¢) fee for each transaction over F$100 (US$60), F$1 (US60¢) if under that amount. Neither of ANZ's other branches nor any other bank charges such a fee. There's an ATM on the wall outside the branch, where you can draw Fijian currency by using MasterCard or Visa credit or debit cards.

ANZ Bank, Westpac Bank, and Colonial National Bank have offices throughout the country where currency and traveler's checks can be exchanged. ANZ Bank and Westpac Bank have ATMs at their Nadi and Suva offices and at their branches in Savusavu. Elsewhere bring credit cards, cash, and travelers checks. Banking hours nationwide are Monday to Thursday from 9:30am to 3pm and Friday from 9:30am to 4pm.

You can also cash traveler's checks at Thomas Cook Travel Service and GlobalEX offices in Nadi Town and Suva.

Visitors are no longer required to show their passports in order to cash travelers checks; a driver's license or other official photo identification will suffice.
